Sara Bonnefant and Patrick Gallegos sit down with ASHP and share how they have been coping with changes to rotations due to the COVID-19. Listen in as they share thier strategies for managing experiential rotations from the student and preceptor perspective.
SPEAKERS
Patrick J. Gallegos, Pharm.D., BCPS graduated from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy in 2004. He completed a two-year pharmacotherapy residency in 2006 and was the first faculty hired at the NEOMED College of Pharmacy. Dr. Gallegos currently serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist of Internal Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he works with interprofessional teaching teams in acute care. He serves as teaching faculty for both the Pharmacy Practice and Internal Medicine Residency Programs. At NEOMED, Dr. Gallegos serves as the Vice Chair of Pharmacy Practice Based Research and is an Associate Professor in both the department of Pharmacy Practice and the department of Internal Medicine.
Sara Bonenfant is a fourth-year student pharmacist at Northeast Ohio Medical University and the Chair of ASHP’s Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee. Sara’s educational scholarship interests include mentoring, student leadership, and professional organization involvement. She is also an active member in local, state, and national pharmacy organizations to help advance the practice of pharmacy. In her free time, Sara enjoys spending time with loved ones and loves being a dog mom to her two huskies.
Vicki Basalyga, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPPS, is the Director for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. In this role Vicki serves as an information resource and provides guidance to ASHP members regarding science and scientific developments affecting pharmacy practice in health systems. She serves as secretary to the Section executive committee and coordinates activities to accomplish the objectives established by the Section. Additionally, Vicki has assumed the position of Council Secretary for the ASHP's Council on Therapeutics.
Vicki received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Vicki is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
Prior to her current position at ASHP, Vicki practiced as critical care pharmacist in both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Other activities Vicki performed included drafting policies and procedures, co-chairing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, creating and drafting order sets for CPOE conversion and precepting residents and students.
